I’ve been off the social media scene for a few months, mostly because of the birth of my daughter Marina, who just turned 9 months old. She’s now 3/4 of a year old and I just turned 34. Just finished adding some more Basalt to the Caldara Volcano 🌋 and Lava Flow gardens on Monroe Row. This is my way of trying to bring the power and beauty of the natural world down to the scale of the garden: a miniaturized and stylized Cascade range with dwarf conifers and stonecrops. Every single boulder was hand placed by yours truly and the homeowners are populating the scene with their Bonsai and amazing plant collection. A couple of weeks ago I was able to salvage a few big native ferns 🌿that were being thrown away. I traded the ferns to a client for some big bareroot Salmonberry shrubs 🌳which they did not want anymore. Now as of this Saturday morning, the Salmonberries are living along Bob Straub parkway in a big @friendsoftreeseugene planting project! Awesome!! @kvalnews even showed up to film the workparty (we were on the news) I am so happy to donate plant material and to volunteer my time for the worthy cause of enhancing the quality of our urban forest. 🌲🌳🍁Today we planted Giant Sequoia, Oregon White Oak, Ponderosa Pine, White Alder, Black Hawthorn, Spiraea, Native Rose, Ninebark, Camas, and many more native Cascadian plant species. #friendsoftrees #camassia #salmonberry #volunteer #nonprofit #trees #cascadia #eugene #eugeneoregon #seeds #landscaping #urbanforest #urbanforestry #springfieldoregon

For anyone who has lost a loved one recently this post is for you. 🥀 At the Oregon Gardens in Silverton, on the hill above Frank Lloyd Wright’s Usonian house is a memorial called the Angel of Hope. It is designed to give a place of comfort for the grieving parents, family, and friends of children who have died. Looking around the angel statute you see hundreds of round river rocks, each engraved with the name of a child. It is a very powerful place to sit as the sun goes down and reflect on life and death. If someone you love has recently passed away consider tagging their name on one of the rocks on this image, and take a quick break from IG to remember the warmth of their life that is still alive in your memories. Who have you lost that you never want to forget? Who would you be shocked to hear of their sudden passing? Please reach out to those you care about NOW and treasure the time that you have left on this earth 🌎 because there are no fucking guarantees! Be grateful for the good times and please don’t worry about the dead; they have returned home to the source of life. I will too one day. So will you. There is no reason to be afraid.
